John P. Johnston, CPA CMA

John has been practicing in the field of accounting and financial services for approximately 20 years, and is licensed as both a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).  His expertise is with tax, audit, and consulting for closely held medium-sized businesses ($500 thousand to $125 million) in a range of industries including real estate, construction, land resource, manufacturing, and not-for-profit.  As a CPA, John provides expertise in financial reporting, internal control, tax compliance and planning, and other traditional public accounting services. As a CMA, he is trained in business strategies and strategic planning, internal reporting models, incentive models, information systems, and other more managerial focused services. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Institute of Management Accountants.
 
John has conducted seminars and training sessions in a variety of for-profit and not-for-profit issues such as process design, real estate and timber topics, and grant and contract compliance.  Volunteering his time in the community, John lends his professional expertise to several not-for-profit organizations as a board and committee member for such organizations as The Arboretum Foundation (past President and Treasurer), United Way of King County (past Chair Audit Review Committee), AIDS Housing of Washington (past Board Member), and others.
 
John is a native of the Pacific Northwest; he was educated in Virginia at Washington & Lee University. John joined BBJS in 1997 after working with both a large international public accounting firm as well as a local firm.  John, his wife and two daughters live on Bainbridge Island.
 

William F. Serres, CPA CFP®
  
Bill has been practicing in the field of public accounting and financial services for approximately 15 years, and is licensed as both a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP). His expertise includes tax services for small to medium sized businesses ($500 thousand to $125 million), financial planning for high net worth individuals, and financial planning. Bill also owns and operates BBJS Financial Advisors, LLCa financial planning and wealth management company separate from our CPA firm.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the Financial Planning Association. 
 
Bill’s practice is split between closely held business clients in a variety of industries, including timber and real estate, and comprehensive financial planning and asset management for clients who look to BBJS for their planning needs.
 
Bill is a native of the Pacific Northwest and was educated at the University of Washington.  After starting out his career with a large international accounting firm, he came to BBJS in 1997.  Bill currently resides with his wife and four children in Bellevue.
 
 


David Keene, CPA

David received his accounting degree from the University of Oregon in 1975.  He has practiced in local accounting firms since 1976, serving as an audit manager and partner, and most recently operating his own accounting firm. David has written several articles on accounting and taxation topics for legal and accounting professional journals.  He has also been a speaker at numerous seminars on income and estate taxation topics, and has served as an expert witness on fiduciary accounting.  His memberships include the Estate Planning Council of Seattle, the Washington Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
When he gets the chance, David enjoys fishing and working on his cabin on Vancouver Island, Canada.
 
 


Edgar P. Bancroft, CPA
Ed's association with BBJS began on October 1, 1973.  Ed's audit and tax experience includes 33 years of working with Pacific Northwest forest resource companies and other leading regional businesses.  Special assignments have included audits of U.S. subsidiaries of publicly traded Canadian real estate development companies and serving as a court-appointed manager/receiver of a 4,000 acre subdivision in Eastern Washington.
A graduate in finance from the University of Washington School of Business, Ed continues to work as a consultant on special projects when he isn't on the golf course.
 
 


Melinda A. Buckley, CPA
Melinda's association with BBJS began in August 1978 and she became a partner in 1988.  Effective January 1, 2011, Melinda retired from partnership in the firm and now works as a consultant to BBJS providing assistance on client matters as needed.  Her area of expertise includes trusts, estates and high wealth individuals including tax compliance, estate planning, fiduciary accounting and reporting.
Melinda is a native of the Pacific Northwest growing up on a large farm in Eastern Washigton.  She was educated at the University of Washington and enjoys living in the Green Lake area of Seattle when she is not visiting the farm or traveling.
